The idea for DASH 4 DOC came about days following Dr. Bryan F. McCraw's death from a massive heart attack, in May 2011.  Dr. McCraw was an avid runner, and had found out a few months earlier that he had been selected by lottery to run in the NY City Marathon on November 6, 2011.  His love of running inspired his family to organize a 5K memorial race on the same weekend of the New York City Marathon.  On that weekend, the 1st annual DASH 4 DOC took place on November 5, 2011, benefitting the American Heart Association.  Around 350 runners and walkers dashed off in the streets of Columbia to remember a man who had given so much.  He touched so many peoples' lives as a respected physician in the Columbia community, but most importantly, his love for his family made him who he was.  Because of the outpouring of support from the community, the family was able to donate $8,000 that first year and to-date, in conjunction with the Marion County Heart Association has raised close to  $65,000  for the American Heart Association.    Their hope is that with each year, they can continue to support such a worthy cause, and help people stay active and maintain healthy hearts.
We are in need of volunteers to help the day of the race. Interested in learning more?
